The Rules of International Trade

This course provides an overview of the rules of international trade and the organizations that are involved in drafting, implementing and administering them. It presents the main purposes of international rules of trade, the benefits of adhering to them and the various institutions which enforce them, with a particular focus on their impact with regard to exporters. Finally, it examines the concept of trade facilitation and why it is important for SMEs who trade, or aim to trade, internationally.

After completing this course, participants will be able to:
Assess why rules are needed in international trade and identify some basic principles in the way these rules are designed and implemented.
Evaluate the ways in which different rules help exporters overcome the challenges of engaging in international trade.
Assess the rules by which exporters overcome the difficulties associated with participating in international trade.
Identify the role of tradeagreements in international trade, as well as their main impact for exporters.
